Babywearing 101, vol. 4: Babywearing in Summer

Here we go again - as Jana pointed out recently: "Have you noticed that there are not 4 seasons in the babywearing groups, but only 2? Every one tries to figure out how to dress the wearie in hot weather from March to August. And from August to March, there are several questions about how to make the wearie warm enough on daily basis." We are asked about what wrap to buy or how to dress a baby when babywearing basically every day. So let's have a look at this matter. What wrap to buy? The answer to this question, in most babywearing groups, is usually "a thinner blended wrap with linen, hemp, silk, Tencel, or bamboo". Some experienced wearers may also recommend wool. Lenka will tell you more about the "blend theory": ;)  linen - it is usually the first blend anyone [...]

Jožánek Babywearing Cardigan Renata (Radka)

Linda’s View: Again, we have some unfinished business here – this time, from the category of babywearing clothes. It is a babywearing cardigan Jožánek, which I was wearing for the whole winter last year. Thus the testing was really thorough. Jožánek is a Czech company, founded more than 10 years ago by a mum on maternity leave, Jana Gebauerová Havelková. They specialize in clothes for kids and pregnant, breastfeeding and babywearing mums. Besides their babywearing cardigan, I own a breastfeeding T-shirt, turtleneck and nightgown as well.  Last year, when I was looking for a babywearing sweatshirt or cardigan, the choice was much more desperate than it is nowadays. Everything was either super expensive (at least for my taste), too colourful or simply sold out. When Lenka drew my attention to this cardigan, I was truly excited – it was exactly what I was looking for! Simple, single-coloured and affordable. [...]

Pabelle Slings Makia Ivory

Composition: 48 % merino, 52 % cotton Weight: 310 g/m² according to the manufacturer, 287 g/m² counted by us Size: long 5 (443 cm post-wash, measured by us) Back wrap cross carry/Tibetian knotless finish Experienced Facebook wrap maniacs have certainly already come across the Polish brand Pabelle - at least, their cute Llama pattern or elegant Makia with little branches which can be found in their logo as well. Pabelle is not a large-scale producer of wraps for sure; they have released about 15 to 20 wraps since the first release in July 2017 (I am not sure about the exact number, but not all of their wraps are on Slingofest and I am too lazy to go through their whole FB page). You will not find any pattern experiments (except maybe, let’s be honest, the not very popular ˈBlurˈ pattern); on the other hand, [...]

In Tatras with Lenka

As some of you probably noticed on our Instagram, Lenka and I went on holiday last week. However, we did not go together – each of us chose a different location :) My husband, Helenka and I went to the Tatras, more specifically near Štrbské pleso, while Lenka went to the Jeseníky Mountains with her family. Now, you may be wondering about the story’s title – why on earth did she write ˈIn the Tatras with Lenkaˈ? The story goes like this ... When we planned our route to the Tatras, it caught my eye that the way goes through the town of Žilina (Slovakia). I told myself: “Well, Žilina, that is the seat of Lenka, the manufacturer of baby carriers and wraps, isn’t it? We could surely stop by.” And since I am an industrious girl, I immediately made an appointment. Now, do you think Lenka Cenigová [...]

Loktu She Navis Ahoy and Amphitrite review

Navis Ahoy Composition: 100 % combed cotton Weight: 330 g/m² (according to the manufacturer), 332 g/m² (counted by us) Size: 6 Lenka: Back wrap cross carry with chestbelt (and something between Tibetian and freestyle finish) Lindaˈs View: We have promised you to release the review of ˈboatsˈfirst, so read the superlatives in our very first story. Well, there will be no teasing – it is just LOVE! I must say that I liked the pattern of boats since the first time I saw it on Facebook. It is not exactly wild, however, these naval patterns are immortal and very popular at least in summer: rudders, boats, sailboats and anchors are simply kind of summer evergreen in the fashion world, as well as in the babywearing one. Letˈs face it – both of these worlds interfere and complement each other. Well, minimalistic pattern in moderate colours [...]

Oscha Starry Night Nebula review

Composition: 56 % organic combed cotton, 22 % wild silk, 22 % cottonWeight: c. 268 g/m2Reinforced front wrap cross carryLenkaˈs View:In the babywearing world, Oscha is a well-known and well-established brand with age-old tradition. It is broadly recognized that they simply cannot release a bad wrap. Those Scots are just good at what they do, especially when they work with silk. Moreover, Starry Night is one of their most classic patterns, resembling the real starry night – at first glance, one could say lurex is one of the blends (it is certainly not, it is really just woven pattern!).Nebula is one of the wraps you cannot go wrong with. A tender, smooth marshmallow suitable for the smallest babies as well as for heavier toddlers (despite its relatively low weight). Writing about an Oscha wrap that it easily tightens, slips ideally and holds in the carry is almost pointless [...]

Be Lenka 4ever

Full wrap conversion carrier, 100% cotton The manufacturer states it is suitable from 5 kg to c. 2,5 years Lindaˈs View: Lenka, that is a brand of high-quality carriers from Slovakia. Mrs Lenka herself, who is responsible for the carriers, is a remarkable woman. However, I would like to talk about the carrier mainly, therefore I will just mention that besides carriers, they make wraps or barefoot shoes as well, and that her life story is simply incredible. Lenka carriers were on my radar for quite some time, however, it was rather complicated to find my way through all the variants, therefore my choosing led to a standstill. That is why I gladly applied for testing of the latest Lenka 4Ever, which was supposed to make the job of choosing easier for wearers as indecisive as I am. Lenka 4Ever is intended for the whole baby-wearing period – unfortunately, [...]

How did babywearing with Helenka begin

I would like to describe how it happened that I became a wearer of my Helenka. The description will be quite extensive as I would like to remember everything as it happened. Indeed, I found out that the capacity of my brain is limited and that I tend to forget recent events (I blame the breastfeeding, of course). I hope this is just temporary. When Helenka was born, she was just perfect – 3,380 grams, 51 centimetres. Due to my flabby arms, it was sometimes a problem to carry her. That is why I usually just sat with her, holding her in my arms, or having her at my breast. To be honest, rocking or bouncing does not work for her, so I gave up on it pretty early and started to solve all our problems by nursing (the situation did not change until now – Helenka is one [...]
